Dear Parents /Guardians:

The school year is flying by and the sunny days of summer will soon give way to the crisp air of a soon-arriving winter.   I wanted to share the procedure the district uses in regards to cancelling school due to inclement weather.  The decision to cancel school is usually made by 6:00 A.M.  In the event that we would make the decision to dismiss early due to inclement weather, please tune into the TV or radio stations listed below.    The school system uses a variety of sources of information to determine whether to close schools, or dismiss early. These sources include actual physical inspection of road and school conditions by me, MODOT, an analysis from the National Weather Service and contact local superintendents and our bus contractor Apple Bus Company.

Local media sources are then contacted to ensure that all parents and students are aware of the cancellation.  Please note that the following TV/Radio stations that will be contacted. We will also use School Messenger and Facebook to notify you.

·       KCTV 5

·       Fox 4 News

·       KDKD - Clinton (1280 AM)

·       KDKD - Clinton (95.3 FM)

You can also utilize our school web page for additional information regarding school closure.

It is advisable for parents to make the final decision on safe travel conditions for your child. On days when the driving conditions are potentially dangerous, we encourage parents to send your child to school via the school bus. While student drivers are taken into account on days when the driving conditions are poor, student drivers are not the only factor considered. As with driving, parents are encouraged to determine if the outside weather conditions are too cold for their child. While the District strives to make the best decision it can for all students, there may be times when a parent needs to make the final decision on their child’s attendance on a particular day.
